Going under the hood to change something obscure

On the OPML-Newbies list Frank asks if there's a way to change the location of the www folder. He has to do it because in his networked environment it's not possible to create folders in this place and the OPML Editor fails when it tries to initialize the folder.

The answer is yes, it is possible to change the location, but it's not very pretty. Here's how you do it.

1. In the Windows menu, choose dotOpmlData.root and navigate to dotOpmlData.folderwatcher.prefs.folder.

2. Change the string to point to the folder you want to use.

3. Press Control-S to save.

4. Quit and relaunch.

5. Hope for the best.

I've actually had to do this when testing, to get a virgin OPML folder, and was surprised to find that I didn't need to do more than this. Everything just initializes properly from there, or so it seemed.

Now that I've shown you how to make fire, please don't go around changing things in the root files unless you really know what you're doing. It's like farting with the Registry in Windows. You can do serious damage this way, and get into lots of trouble.
