newsRiver.root v0.2

What's new

The major new feature in this release is a browser-based preference system that lets you set basic configuration options for the NewsRiver aggregator. It also lays a foundation that makes it easier for me to add new preferences as they become necessary. To access the new prefs, there's a command in the NewsRiver sub-menu of the Tools menu. Screen shot.

There's a new Export OPML command, also in the NewsRiver sub-menu, that lets you export your subscription list so it can be imported into another aggregator or feed reader.

When the aggregator reads a feed it sets the referer for the request to http://www.newsriver.org/, a new site with a place-holder message for people who are unfamiliar with the aggregator. This address will appear in the referer logs for feeds that are read by users of this aggregator.

How to get the new version

If you already are running newsRiver.root, all you have to do is choose Get Latest Code from the NewsRiver sub-menu of the Tools menu. Or, you can wait until the next hourly scan and it will automatically update.

If you don't have newsRiver.root, but already have the OPML Editor installed, just follow the instructions here. It's the current version. We're still in testing mode for this, so it's not very easy to install. That's on purpose, so we can get this developed with input from users as we develop.

Report any problems in comments here, remember the 1-2-3 format. Say what you were doing, what you expected to happen and what actually happened.
