To celebrate Fat Tuesday, some funky tunes!

Brian Oberkirch created a Mardi Gras music playlist from New Orleans.

He lives in Slidell, Louisiana, a town that's both on the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Pontchartrain; it was almost exactly where the eye of Katrina made landfall.

Bruce's RSS feed isn't a feed in the usual sense, it won't change over time, it's just for today, it's got some MP3s of New Orleans music, a tantalizing collection of very danceable funky tunes. I wanted to download all the songs onto my hard disk so I could listen anytime, so of course I wrote a script, and now I'd like to show you how to do it.

How to get the music

1. You must have NewsRiver already installed. If you don't just make sure your OPML Editor is fully updated, it's now part of the default install.

2. Choose Get Latest Code from the NewsRiver sub-menu of the Tools menu.

3. Choose newsRiver.root from the Window menu, and navigate to newsRiverSuite.playlist.download. Click the Run button. A folder should open. Kick back and wait, depending on how fast your net connection is, it could take a while for all the files to download. On my DSL line it took about ten minutes. Not too bad!
